Photo of the day: The joys of commuting 2

Here's a few more pics that I took the other day that I thought I'd post (click to enlarge). I guess they capture some snippets of the "excitement" of commuting from Cambridge to London on a daily basis. The first shot is the sun coming up over the railway at Cambridge train station at 7:15am. The other two shots are of the entrance to the tube at Kings Cross in the morning, and the platform at Kings Cross on the way back home in the evening. I was thinking that maybe one day I might record some "sounds of the day" and compile them into a song or something - something weird like a kind of audio commuter's nightmare. I imagine that it will probably come out like Pink Floyd's "On the Run" off "Dark Side of the Moon"!

There was a pretty amazing sunset this evening. I took this photo on the train coming back to Cambridge from London. Looking at it now on the PC, I wish I didn't cut off the ground as much as I did. I guess I was too distracted by the clouds at the time to notice.

Yes, folks it's another DrGaz photo of the day. Actually I took it last Sunday when I was cooking my nice Italian-style tomato & basil sauce with pasta again! The lighting in the kitchen was quite dramatic at that time of day. The evening sunlight was really golden and there was lots of shadows and contrast. I hoped that the photo would come out better, but I guess you need a really good camera to capture a certain mood in the way that you intended.

Photo of the day: On the way back from Grantchester.

Today we walked along the river from Cambridge to Grantchester. A very nice walk with beautiful weather. We ended up at The Orchard. A historic tea garden where Rupert Brooke used to hang out and chill with his mates. "Stands the church clock at ten-to-three And is there honey still for tea?" and all that mallarkey.

I snapped this as we were walking back to Cambridge (don't forget to click for biggerness). This is a path we walked down that had some postcard-perfect cottages which must cost some serious ££££££££££ to buy. I couldn't resist snapping a shot of a row of daffodils as we passed. Daffodils are quite simply the best flowers ever, showing their smiley yellow faces just at the very beginning of spring. I love 'em.

This is a view of the colourful market square taken from the window of the Marks & Spencer cafe in the middle of Cambridge. At the back of the shot is University Church of "St Mary the Great". Visitors can climb the tower and believe me, you get a fantastic view of Cambridge from there.

I snapped this earlier today as I was walking near Hills Road. It's "Our Lady and the English Martyrs" (that's a mouthful) church, the Catholic Church in Cambridge. Not my favorite piece of architecture here, but quite an imposing beast nevertheless. Please could somebody give it a bloody good scrub.

Such beautiful weather we're having at the moment. I can't believe that snow is forecast soon.

A week ago we moved (temporarily until we find something better) to a tiny flat in the middle of Cambridge. It's a great location for the money and is only 10 minutes walk into the town centre or to the station. This is the view through the skylight. It's great to lie in bed and look straight up at the clouds. The only problem with this place is that we're right next door to the local curry-house and their roof extractor points right at our skylight. They're in there making curry day and night, seven days a week. I love the smell of Indian food myself, but the problem is that it makes me drool continuously whenever the window gets opened.

I came across someone's photoblog recently whilst surfing. Such a good idea I thought - you can still be creative without having to spend hours writing a load of bollocks that nobody will read anyway. Therefore, because I simply am too lazy to write anything right now, here is my very first "DrGaz photo of the day".

What is it? Well, I'm currently staying for a few days at a friend's house in Cambridge. This is a wacky perpective on the kitchen I snapped earlier. I quite like how the blue fading natural light outside contrasts with the artificially lit interior.
